To celebrate the Freedom Rewards credit card’s 1st birthday, I created ‘Pop The Balloon’. Using a new competition mechanic for Facebook that allowed people to enter without leaving their newsfeed. This is how it worked:

1. A Facebook competition where users ‘Liked’ a post to help inflate a real life balloon.
2. Bespoke software tracked each ‘Like’ and inflated the balloon with a bit of air
3. The user whose ‘Like’ popped the balloon, won 500,000 Freedom points
4. This was also live streamed directly into users’ Facebook newsfeed so they could keep track of the activity without having to leave Facebook.

Over 2,000 entries later, and with a dwell time of almost 8 minutes, the balloon was popped.
